2018 Spring Gala

The Fundraising Committee of The Scandinavian School of Jersey City invites you to celebrate the school year as a community. All funds raised will benefit our non-profit, The Scandinavian School Foundation.

play iceland & The Reggio emilia institute

Last year, Christine from Trollskogen and Paula from Mumindalen traveled to the International Play Iceland in Reykjavik, funded by your generosity in the 2016-2017 Fundraising Campaign. Their enthusiasm for all they experienced was infectious in their presentations to parents and teachers . In 2018, we want to be able to send more teachers to learn about the revolutionary idea that children need play.

Every year,  we are able to send teachers to Reggio Emilia workshops in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This ensures all our educators have a solid foundation in our student centered, emergent curriculum..

Making a magical space inside and outside

This year, we have big plans for additions to our inside and outdoor spaces at Scandischool. We want to upgrade our ever-popular mud kitchen in the backyard with a rain barrel to harvest water for the children's work.

We also want to be able to purchase new light tables, projectors, computers, cameras and iPads so all our classroom have access to explore with technology.

a real greenhouse

Our students have an opportunity to learn about caring for plants during the spring, summer and fall in our outdoor garden. In the 2016-2017 school year, we were able to create a small indoor greenhouse on top of the cubbies in the main entrance of the 210 building. In the 2017-2018 school year, we would love to be able to make a real outdoor greenhouse located in the backyard.
