About the Forest Pre-K4 Program

“There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”

This has been SSJC motto since we first opened our doors in 2010. Growing up in Scandinavia our founders have a deep cultural connection to the outdoors. Fostering that connection in our children continues to be SSJC's highest mission. Our school’s identity is intertwined with nature - from going outside everyday no matter the weather, exploring local green spaces, our garden, our kitchen, our use of natural materials, to our growing commitment to eco-sustainability.

We strive to provide a multitude of ways for our children to build their own positive relationship with the environment, to become life-long advocates of it. Our forest Pre-K4 program builds on this mission.

Green spaces are the extension of their classroom

The children take our very own school bus to green spaces in Jersey City. These spaces become the extension of their classroom, where the children continue to play, collaborate, research, explore, discover and share their growing knowledge. The teachers act as collaborators and co-researchers alongside the children, forging together the collective learning journey of the emergent curriculum grounded in philosophies of the Reggio Emilia approach, Swedish curriculum and place-based education.
